As a member of this highly stable group of plant viruses, it poses a persistent threat to agricultural production. The virus is structurally robust, allowing it to survive for extended periods outside of a living host in soil or contaminated debris.
The host range is primarily focused on the Brassicaceae family, specifically targeting wasabi (Eutrema japonicum). Given the high economic value of wasabi, any outbreak of this viral disease can cause severe financial losses. Commercial operations, especially those using hydroponic or flow-through water systems, are particularly vulnerable due to the potential for rapid systemic spread.
