Tomato Varamin virus (ToVV) is a significant plant pathogen classified within the Begomovirus genus. This virus possesses a single-stranded DNA genome and is transmitted primarily by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci. Due to its efficient transmission mechanism, it poses a severe threat to tomato production in affected regions, leading to substantial economic losses.

The virus primarily infects tomato crops, but its host range extends to various weed species and other Solanaceous plants. These alternative hosts play a critical role in the virus's ecology, serving as reservoirs that maintain the pathogen in the environment when primary crops are not being cultivated.

Symptoms of ToVV infection are distinct and include severe leaf curling, yellow mosaic patterns on the foliage, and stunted growth of the entire plant.
