Peach chlorotic spot virus (Trichovirus persicae) is a plant pathogen classified within the Trichovirus genus. This virus causes a systemic infection in fruit trees, leading to chronic physiological stress and a gradual decline in the overall vigor and productivity of the host plant.
The primary hosts for this virus are stone fruit trees, with a specific susceptibility observed in peaches, nectarines, and almonds. The infection often persists in the plant tissues indefinitely, making the tree a permanent source of inoculum for other susceptible plants located within the immediate vicinity of the orchard.
Symptomatology typically involves the development of chlorotic spots or mottling patterns on the leaves during the active growth phase. As the disease progresses, growers may notice significant foliage distortion, stunted shoot development, and a reduction in fruit yield, often coupled with poor fruit quality and size.
