Desmodium mosaic virus, taxonomically identified as Tymovirus desmodii, is a viral pathogen that causes significant systemic infections in various plant species. As a member of the Tymovirus genus, this virus utilizes a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome to replicate and hijack host cellular machinery, leading to physiological disturbances.
The host range of this virus predominantly includes members of the legume family (Fabaceae), with the genus Desmodium acting as a primary subject of infection. In agricultural settings, it can also spread to related legume crops, where it finds suitable conditions for rapid proliferation and long-term persistence in weed reservoirs.
Symptoms of the disease are typically manifested as mosaic patterns on foliage, comprising chlorotic and green mottling.
