The Andean potato latent virus (APLV) is a plant pathogenic virus belonging to the Tymovirus genus. It poses a significant challenge to the potato industry, primarily because the infection often manifests as latent, meaning plants may remain asymptomatic while acting as reservoirs for the virus.

Potatoes are the primary host for this virus, but it can also infect various species within the Solanaceae family. The transmission of the virus occurs via infected tubers used for propagation, as well as through mechanical contact between plants or via contaminated agricultural tools and equipment.

Symptoms of APLV infection can include mild mosaic patterns, leaf mottling, and in some cases, leaf distortion or stunted growth. Prevention strategies focus on eliminating potential weed reservoirs, practicing rigorous sanitation of tools, and implementing systematic diagnostic testing to ensure the integrity of the seed supply chain.
