Pathogen and disease type. Cordyline velarivirus (Velarivirus tricordylinae) is a viral pathogen classified within the Velarivirus genus of the Closteroviridae family. It causes a systemic disease that primarily affects the vascular system of the plant, disrupting nutrient transport and photosynthesis, which leads to a gradual decline in the host's vitality.

Host plants. The virus is primarily associated with Cordyline species, widely grown as ornamental plants in nurseries and home gardens. Due to the nature of its transmission, it often spreads in commercial facilities where plant propagation and high-density growth conditions occur.

Symptoms and signs of infection. Infected plants exhibit classic viral symptoms including chlorotic mosaic patterns, leaf streaking, yellowing of the foliage, and occasional leaf distortion. As the infection progresses, the plant loses its aesthetic value, exhibits stunted growth, and may become significantly weaker compared to healthy specimens.

Conditions for development and spread. The transmission of the virus occurs via contaminated vegetative propagules and mechanical transmission through infested pruning tools.
