The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said it has reached an agreement with Mexico's plant health authority that will allow fresh Canadian potatoes to be shipped to Mexico for consumption or processing.
PEI growers said shipments could begin as early as this fall. The PEI Potato Board said Mexico's large population makes it an attractive market and that exporters plan to focus mainly on russet potatoes that do not compete directly with locally grown Mexican varieties.
