Description
Emerald is a medium-maturity kiwiberry variety, distinguished by vigorous growth and adaptability to various growing conditions. The plant forms long canes 3 to 6 meters long, which require support for climbing growth. It blooms in April with white flowers having purple stamens; red leaves appear on the shoots. The fruits have a shortened cylindrical shape, dark green matte color, and a length of about 2.1 cm. They are clustered together, do not drop easily, and are well-preserved during transport.
The fruit flesh is soft, the skin is smooth, firm, and glossy. The fruits are tart-sweet with a strawberry aroma, containing 12.7% sugars and 1.6% acidity. Due to the high content of carotenoids and pectin, they are beneficial for the body, aiding in the removal of isotopes. The fruits are juicy, and the taste resembles a combination of apple and pineapple.
The variety is frost-hardy: it withstands temperatures down to –25 °C, which allows for cultivation in cold regions. For planting, a 60×60 cm pit with drainage and a layer of humus is recommended; planting depth is 10 cm. The plant requires regular watering, fertilization (150 g of minerals), and pruning in early spring. The distance between plants is 50 cm, and the plant height reaches 600 cm. Fruiting begins in the third year after planting and continues for up to thirty years.
