Description
Actinidia 'Fortuna' - a self-fertile mini-kiwi variety that has proven itself on large European plantations thanks to its high yield and outstanding taste qualities. The fruits possess exotic notes of pineapple, kiwi, and melon: they are large, oval-shaped, about 3 cm long and approximately 2.5 cm wide, with a beautiful purplish-bronze skin reminiscent of a tan. The flesh is juicy, aromatic, and has a pleasant dessert taste, being sweet-and-sour, which makes the berries versatile for fresh consumption, making compotes, jams, or adding to salads.
The variety is characterized by resistance to main diseases and frost hardiness up to -28 °C. Adult plants can reach a height of 3–4 m, while the growth rate is average - about 100 cm per year. To ensure optimal development, the plant needs support: a trellis, arch, or tying to the trunk. Planting is preferable in sunny, sheltered from drafts areas with drained moist soils.
'Fortuna' seedlings usually have a height of 30–40 cm and are one year old. They are grown in containers of size R9 and, with proper care, bear fruit in the second-third year after planting, ripening begins in mid-September. Regular watering, fertilizing, and pruning according to the grape principle contribute to good fruiting and maintaining plant health.
