Description
Actinidia 'Pomarancheva' is an early female variety growing as a vine up to 20 meters tall, reaching maturity in September. The fruits have a bright orange color, elongated cylindrical shape, about 3.5 cm long and 1.6 cm wide; their average weight is 6–7 g, and the total yield is up to 12 kg per plant. The flesh is tender, the core is bright orange, the skin is thin and translucent, making the berries attractive for fresh consumption, preserves, jams, or freezing. The taste resembles sweet bell pepper, and young leaves are edible and similar to watercress.
The plant is highly hardy (down to -35 °C) and does not require winter covering. For successful pollination, a male of the same species must be planted nearby. Actinidia 'Pomarancheva' grows on fertile, well-drained slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5–6.5) and prefers sunny or semi-shaded locations. The planting interval is from 1 to 1.5 m. Care for seedlings is simple: regular watering, feeding in spring with humates for vegetative growth and during fruiting with potassium humate.
The fruits are rich in carotene and vitamin C, making them a valuable addition to the diet. The plant is drought and moisture resistant but may be susceptible to fungal infections and pests (mites, slugs, chafer larvae), so fungicides, acaricides, and insecticides are used if necessary. Actinidia 'Pomarancheva' can also be used as a hedge, pergola, or arch, creating shade and protection from wind.
