University

Actinidia «University» – a medium-sized vine reaching a height of about six meters. Leaves are dark-olive, medium-sized, smooth and soft, turning yellow and red shades in autumn with a yellow-white color. The plant grows quickly and can bear fruit even in colder regions, thanks to its hardiness and frost resistance.

Fruits of Actinidia «University» have an elongated-cylindrical shape, weighing about three grams, up to 2.5 cm long. The color is green with light longitudinal stripes; the surface is slightly ribbed and shiny. Inside, the flesh is tender, the aroma resembles strawberry, and the taste combines acidity and sweetness, while seeds are almost imperceptible. Fruits are rich in vitamin C (about 1480 mg per 100 g) and contain biologically active substances that aid meat digestion.

For successful cultivation, a warm place with light protection from drafts must be provided. Actinidia prefers light or slightly shaded areas but bears fruit better in light shade. Soils should be fertile, moderately moist, and slightly acidic; adding ash, compost, or manure increases yield. The plant requires pollination by a male specimen (Actinidia kolomikta), so when planting, maintain a ratio of 6–8 female to two male plants.

University Actinidia is valued as a decorative plant: its climbing shoots decorate facades, pergolas, and arches, creating the effect of a living sculpture. With proper care, it can become not only a source of tasty berries but also a bright element of landscape design.
