Description
Orange King – an annual eschscholzia growing to about 30–45 cm in height, which grows quickly and forms a round, spreading bush structure with grayish-green leaves covered with a waxy bloom. The leaves have a finely divided structure, which gives the plant lightness and airiness.
The flowers of this eschscholzia are simple, saucer-shaped, 6–8 cm in diameter, bright orange and odorless. They open only in clear weather from 10 to 16 hours in the afternoon, staying in the flowerbed for only 3–4 days, but due to the large number of buds, the bush always looks lush and picturesque. Flowering begins 40–50 days after sowing and continues for 120–150 days, which makes the plant valuable for long-lasting compositions.
Orange King loves light, is drought-resistant and cold-hardy (withstands frosts down to –4…–5 °C), but reacts poorly to excess moisture and fresh organic fertilizers. Therefore, it is best grown by sowing in well-drained, dry soil, avoiding transplanting, as the root system will quickly grow deep into the ground. The plant is perfect for flowerbeds, rabatki, borders, as well as for balcony and window boxes, where its bright flowers create a picturesque accent.
