Description
MICHURINETS is a multi-barberry with a height up to 1.8 m, featuring a pyramidal crown shape and dense green shoots. The leaves are wide, inversely obovate, glossy, and wavy, giving the bush a bright decorative appearance. Thorns are triple, light-brown, and located along the entire length of the shoot, making the plant resistant to pests.
Flowering occurs once in May: racemose inflorescences up to 8 cm long and 3 cm wide contain 6 to 10 light-yellow flowers with a diameter of about 0.5 cm. The aroma is moderate, and mass flowering begins on May 18. The fruits are cylindrical, dark red with a waxy coating, and rounded top; they are edible and often used in the food industry.
MICHURINETS is distinguished by high resistance: winter-hardy, heat-resistant, drought-resistant, and also disease-resistant. It is recommended as a decorative culture and for growing fruits. For planting, use a substrate of peat and manure, adding lime or ash to acidic soil if necessary. The bush can be planted as a single specimen or in a hedge – at a distance of 1.5–2 m from neighboring plants for single planting, and four plants per one linear meter for a hedge.
Care for MICHURINETS is simple: regular watering during the growth period, moderate nitrogen fertilization in the first year, and phosphorus/potassium fertilizers during fruiting. Pruning is carried out in early spring, leaving 5–6 buds, and rejuvenation pruning – once every ten years in autumn. Thanks to its decorativeness and useful fruits, MICHURINETS has become a popular choice for gardeners who wish to combine aesthetic appeal with practical benefits.
