Dolphin

The common beakman variety «Dolphin» is a high-yielding and resilient option to extreme conditions, developed in the Narim Department of SIBNIISKhT. The bush is erect, medium density, about 112 cm high, with round soft stems without pubescence. The leaves are flat, linear and light-green, while the inflorescences are long, two-rowed, light-green with lilac spikes. The seeds are heart-shaped, grayish-yellow.

Technical characteristics make «Dolphin» attractive for agriculture: yield of green mass reaches 187 c/ha, hay – 54 c/ha, seeds – 2.5 c/ha. This exceeds the standard for green mass by 12.8%, dry matter by 13% and seeds by 24%. Foliarization ranges from 52.3% to 62.1%. Protein content in green mass fluctuates between 8.0% and 12.8%, while fiber – from 28% to 38%. The vegetation period from the first mowing is 53–63 days, and full seed maturity – 89–96 days.

The variety is characterized by good winter hardiness, drought resistance and fast growth activity in the spring. It is particularly resistant to flooding by flood waters for 100 days and more, which makes it ideal for reclamation of lawns on excessively wet areas and growing under conditions of high soil moisture or flooded meadow territories.
