Decorative, Medicinal
Description
Calendula "Pink Surprise" is an annual plant with an upright bush reaching a height of 30–60 cm, attracting attention with its large double flowers 5–7 cm in diameter. The flower has a delicate pink shade with a darker center, making it especially bright and attractive for decorative compositions.
The plant is easy to care for: it prefers sunny spots but can also grow in partial shade; it thrives in all types of drained soil. Watering should be moderate and regular, and if desired, you can feed it with a complex fertilizer to enhance flowering. "Pink Surprise" is frost-resistant down to –5 °C, so it can be grown even in regions with cold winters.
Calendula is widely used as a decorative plant in flower beds, on balconies and terraces, and for creating bouquets. Thanks to its medicinal properties, it is valued in folk medicine and cosmetology. Seeds are sown in spring (April–May) at a temperature of 13–17 °C; germination takes about two weeks. After the first shoots appear, thinning is carried out so that the distance between plants is about 20 cm. At the end of the season, the plant is pruned to a height of 20 cm, leaving a small stump with leaves – this stimulates a second flowering and extends the decorative period until late autumn.
