Description
Jatropha curcas variety "Rubinovye Sozvezdie" is an oilseed, medicinal, and decorative plant that can reach a height of up to 10 m under tropical conditions, and grows as an annual shrub about 150 cm tall in a temperate climate. Leaves are alternate, green; young leaves have a dark-red tint and are approximately 25×20 mm in size. The stem is red with a waxy coating, giving the plant a distinctive appearance.
Floristic features include raceme inflorescences ranging from 10 to 30 cm in length, with an average of 5–6 per plant. The inflorescence has a conical shape, measuring about 25×10 cm, and is of medium density. Male flowers are small and white, located at the lower part of the inflorescence, while female flowers are spherical, red, and positioned higher.
The variety is distinguished by its resistance to diseases and pests, light-loving nature, heat-loving nature, and moisture-loving nature. The period from sowing to the beginning of flowering is 90–95 days; flowering begins in July and lasts 45–50 days. It is recommended for group and individual plantings on lawns and in mixed arrangements with other flowering crops. Planting is carried out in spring after the threat of frost, at a depth of 5–7 cm and a distance between plants from 0.5 to 1 m.
It is important to remember that all parts of the jatropha plant are toxic to humans, so precautions should be taken when handling the plant.
