Description
Schisandra 'Volgar' is a perennial vine that reaches heights of 5 to 10 meters depending on growing conditions. The plant grows quickly and does not require complex care: it prefers fertile, well-drained soil with moderate moisture, but is also drought, heat, and frost resistant. It forms a dense bush crown, and the stems are thin and brown, making the plant aesthetically attractive for gardening.
The 'Volgar' variety is monoecious and self-pollinating: both male and female flowers are located on the same branch. Flowering begins at the end of May – beginning of June, with inflorescences of white color of medium size (diameter 1.5–2 cm). After pollination, fruits are formed, gathered in clusters of 12–16 pieces. The berries are red, sourish in taste with a slight resinous aroma, ripen in mid-August and can be used for making compotes, syrups, mors, and drinks.
'Volgar' begins to bear fruit starting from the fifth–sixth year after planting. For successful cultivation, it is recommended to plant young plants (2–3 years) in open ground near trellises or fences at a distance of 1.5–2 meters from each other, and if necessary, tie the stems to supports. Regular watering, soil loosening, and fertilization with mineral fertilizers maintain plant health and increase yield. Thanks to the rich vitamin and microelement composition of the fruits, they contribute to strengthening the immune system and overall health of the body.
