Efficient fertigation: my experience with PeKacid

Working with vegetable and berry crops under drip irrigation, I realized long ago that system maintenance is as important as the nutrition itself. Using PeKacid from Rotem Amfert Negev Ltd is my go-to solution for preventing clogged emitters. Unlike standard phosphorus-potassium mixtures, this Israeli-made product provides a unique acidifying effect.

Why I rely on this formula

• High concentration: 60% P2O5 and 20% K2O allow for precise plant feeding without the buildup of unnecessary ballast salts.
• System cleaning: This is its standout feature. Due to its acidic reaction (pH around 2.2), PeKacid effectively dissolves limescale deposits inside drip tapes and emitters, significantly extending the life of the irrigation system.
• Bioavailability: Crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and berries respond rapidly to this highly available phosphorus source.

Operational insights

The crystalline powder is easy to work with; it dissolves perfectly without leaving residue in the stock tanks. I apply it during active growth and flowering stages when the plants have the highest demand for root-zone phosphorus. Since it is a potent product, I always ensure to flush the system with clean water after each fertigation cycle to maintain equipment integrity.

The product falls under Class 3 hazardous materials, which requires standard safety precautions, but the results make it worthwhile. In my experience, yield improvements are clearly visible, and the root zone remains healthy, free from the salt crusts that often plague drip irrigation systems.
