When planting 'Elf', keep its compactness in mind. It dislikes being crowded out by neighbors, so it is best to place it in open, well-lit areas. The plant responds well to soil aeration, which is the only real maintenance requirement. Otherwise, it is low-effort: after flowering, simply trim the stem so the bush retains its decorative foliage form until autumn.
