Description
Iris "Saltri Mud" is a tall bearded variety reaching up to 90 cm, attracting attention with its bright deep-purple petal color and dark-blue beard. The flower reaches a diameter of about 15 cm, while the scape features ruffled petals creating a Brazilian carnival effect.
For successful cultivation, choose sunny spots protected from drafts and winds. The planting hole should be shallow – no more than 4 cm, with a small layer of sand on top so the rhizome remains at soil level. Before planting, it is recommended to add fertile garden soil or compost, and if necessary, potassium-phosphorus fertilizer. For acidic soil, add wood ash, chalk, and dolomite flour; for sandy soil, add clay soil.
Care for the iris is simple: the root system is almost on the surface, so weeding is done manually, and soil loosening is careful. Remove withered inflorescences to stimulate new flowering. After planting, ensure good watering and mulch with a 20–25 cm layer of dry soil or manure to protect roots in winter. Under moderate climatic conditions, the variety is considered hardy and does not require covering, although in severe regions it is recommended to wrap the roots with fir or pine branches.
"Saltri Mud" is excellent for both single plantings and group compositions with other perennials and woody shrubs. A cut bouquet stays fresh for up to two weeks, making it a popular choice for festive decorations.
