Description
The 'Princess Catharine' melon is an early-maturing hybrid with a maturation period from sowing to harvest of about 75-78 days. The fruits are round, weighing from 1.2 to 1.6 kg, with a thin rind and a characteristic netting on the surface, which can be grey-cream with longitudinal dark stripes or golden-yellow. The flesh is characterized by a bright orange or apricot color, juicy, sweet, and aromatic with a pronounced musky note, giving the melon a rich and harmonious taste.
The plant is resistant to diseases such as anthracnose and powdery mildew, ensuring a stable yield and high fruit quality. For cultivation in areas with unstable agriculture, it is recommended to use film coverings or greenhouses with a trellis cultivation method. When forming the fruits, the stems are pinched after the 5-6th leaf, leaving 3-5 fruits on the plant, and irrigation is stopped 10-15 days before harvest, which improves taste qualities and sweetness.
The 'Princess Catharine' melon is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for drying and dehydration. It possesses high plasticity and is suitable for short-term storage. The yield is approximately 3.5-4.5 kg per square meter, which makes this hybrid attractive for cultivation both in open ground under cover and in greenhouse conditions.
