Genetic Profile and Phytosanitary Protection

Monarda 'Karmelita' is a breeding product designed for stable cultivation in temperate climates. A key technical advantage of this variety is its high level of immunity to powdery mildew. This was achieved through selective breeding conducted by specialists from the Federal Research Center for Vegetable Growing in collaboration with Agrofirma Poisk. High resistance to fungal infections significantly reduces the need for fungicides, positioning the variety as a promising crop for organic farming.

Morphological Features and Agrotechnics

As a spice and aromatic plant, 'Karmelita' possesses significant biochemical potential. The essential oils contained in the aerial parts of the plant make it not only a valuable raw material for the food industry but also a natural repellent in the field. Technologically, the variety is characterized by:

• Stable plant architecture, facilitating mechanized or manual harvesting of raw materials.
• High vegetation speed, allowing for effective cultivation in short daylight conditions.
• Adaptability to various soil types, provided that water management is maintained.

Practical Application of Breeding Material

The result of the work by the authors (N.N. Klimenko et al.) is focused on producing high-quality essential oil crops. Practically, the 'Karmelita' variety is optimal for establishing plantations where yield predictability and the absence of risks related to fungal outbreaks are critical. Unlike wild-growing forms, varietal uniformity allows for the standardization of harvest times, which is a decisive factor in maintaining a high content of target oils in both dry and fresh produce.
