The garden mushroom (Agaricus) is the industry standard for controlled-environment agriculture. As a gilled mushroom, its lifecycle is highly predictable, making it the preferred choice for commercial farms targeting consistent, year-round harvest cycles.

Operational Workflow

• Substrate Management: Success starts with Phase I and II composting. The goal is to create a nitrogen-rich, pasteurized environment using straw and organic manure that favors the mycelium while eliminating competitive molds.
• Casing Layer Application: Unlike wood-decaying fungi, this species requires a specialized casing layer (typically peat-based with limestone). This layer maintains moisture levels and triggers the shift from vegetative mycelial growth to pinning (fruiting).
• Environmental Control: Managing the two-stage temperature cycle is vital. Mycelium colonizes the substrate at 24-25°C, while the transition to fruiting requires a deliberate drop to 16-18°C combined with precise ventilation to regulate CO2 levels.
