Purpose and Design Features

The Müthing MU-Farmer mulcher is a professional implement designed for the intensive shredding of crop residues and stubble management. The machine is engineered to handle large volumes of biomass, including corn stalks, sunflowers, and cover crops. The construction features a reinforced housing made of high-strength fine-grained QStE steel, providing resistance to impact loads during high-speed operations. The MU-Farmer series is tailored for tractors ranging from 100 to 300 horsepower, making it suitable for both mid-sized farms and large agricultural holdings.

Working Tool and Shredding Quality

The heart of the mulcher is an electronically balanced rotor with high-speed flails arranged in a spiral pattern. This configuration ensures an even load on the drive system and minimizes vibrations even when operating on uneven terrain. Special attention is given to the counter-knife system, known as the "shark fin," which allows for achieving a shredding fraction of less than 5 cm. This is critical for rapid mineralization of crop residues and the prevention of pest proliferation, particularly the European corn borer.

Drive and Transmission

The MU-Farmer is equipped with a heavy-duty gearbox featuring an integrated overrunning clutch, designed for operation with a 1000 RPM PTO. Torque transmission is handled by a multi-ribbed belt drive, which acts as a safety clutch in case of foreign object ingestion. Unlike chain drives, the Power-Belt series belts require virtually no maintenance and prevent slippage under high loads. The gearbox housing is protected against dust and mechanical damage, increasing the component's service life in harsh field conditions.

Hydraulics and Attachment

The unit can be operated in both front and rear tractor hitches, expanding possibilities for combination with other tillage implements. A hydraulic adjustment system allows the operator to change the cutting height directly from the cab. The standard configuration includes a massive support roller with a self-cleaning mechanism, ensuring precise field contour following and depth control. Hydraulic hoses are protected against kinking and contact with sharp stubble.

Field Operations

The primary use scenario is preparing fields for no-till or minimum-till sowing. Shredded residues are distributed in a uniform layer across the surface, creating a mulch layer that retains moisture and protects the soil from erosion. When paired with a disc harrow, the MU-Farmer acts as a primary shredder, significantly increasing the productivity of the entire complex. The equipment is also effective for clearing pastures and drainage ditches, thanks to the option of hydraulic tilt adjustment.

Maintenance and Reliability

Müthing designers prioritized maintainability: all lubrication points are easily accessible, and the replacement of working parts is performed using standard tools. Wear-resistant steel liners inside the housing prevent through-wear, extending the frame's lifespan for decades. The use of high-quality bearing assemblies with reinforced protection against moisture and dirt reduces downtime.
