Technical Architecture of the «Aurora» Peony

The «Aurora» peony, developed by the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is a herbaceous perennial with a genetically stable architecture. Reaching a height of 100 cm, the plant’s structural integrity is highly dependent on environmental conditions. Given the mass of its double-flowered blooms, strategic placement or minor staking is recommended to maintain the verticality of the stems during the mid-season bloom window (May 31 – June 15).

The double-type flower structure relies on a dense, multi-layered arrangement of petals, providing a full-bodied aesthetic. The deep crimson coloration is a result of high anthocyanin concentration. From a technical standpoint, this pigment stability is strictly light-dependent; photosynthesis efficiency directly influences the intensity of the hue. Solar exposure is not merely a preference but a physiological requirement for preventing flower senescence and ensuring optimal bud density.

Agrotechnical Requirements for Cultivation

• Soil Specification: This cultivar demands a high-fertility substrate. The robust vegetative growth and heavy generative load require a well-structured soil profile enriched with organic and mineral amendments to support nutrient uptake throughout the growing season.
• Solar Requirements: Maximum solar exposure is essential. Shading results in internode elongation (etiolation) and a significant reduction in the structural integrity of the blooms.
• Application Strategy: Due to the high durability of the peduncles, «Aurora» is an excellent candidate for cut-flower production, maintaining high turgor pressure when post-harvest hydration protocols are followed. In landscape architecture, it serves as a reliable focal point within sunny borders.
