HOWARD R. VOTKINS

The 'Howard R. Votkins' peony cultivar is an interspecific hybrid created in 1947 by Bockstoce in the USA. This cultivar is the result of crossing the tree peony (Paeonia lactiflora) and the white peony (Paeonia albiflora), which endows it with unique characteristics and high decorative value. The bush reaches a height of about 90 cm, making it a noticeable element in the garden.

The flowers of the 'Howard R. Votkins' peony are distinguished by their large size — the diameter reaches up to 16 cm. They have a full double form, resembling a sphere or bomb-like structure, with bright mallow-fuchsia, ruby-red coloration and a velvet-like texture of the petals. Stamens are hidden inside the flower, while pistils are adorned with pink stigmas, adding extra elegance to the bloom. The leaves are large, and the stems are strong, though they tend to bend, so the peony requires support.

This cultivar has an early-mid flowering period, allowing one to enjoy its beauty at the beginning of the season.
