Breeding Profile and Morphology

The 'Stozhary' peony is the result of long-term breeding work by the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine. Unlike complex double-flowered forms, this variety belongs to the herbaceous peony group with a simple flower type. Its architecture focuses on minimalism and graphic clarity: broad petals in a saturated crimson-burgundy hue contrast with a prominent center, creating a focal point that stands out distinctly against common garden varieties.

Agrotechnical Indicators and Growing Conditions

To fully realize the genetic potential of this variety, the choice of substrate and lighting regime is critical. The variety requires the following parameters:

• Soil Composition: A fertile loam with a pH of 6–7 is ideal. A high-quality drainage system is essential to prevent moisture stagnation around the rhizome, which is critical for preventing rot.
• Insolation: The plant is light-loving. Placement in open, well-warmed areas stimulates the intensity of petal pigmentation.
• Phenology: Early flowering (May 15–30) allows the variety to complete its main development cycle before peak summer temperatures, reducing stress on the plant.

Practical Landscape Application

The compact habit makes 'Stozhary' a versatile solution for both open ground and container gardening. Container use requires strict monitoring of soil volume and regular fertilization, as the limited substrate space depletes more quickly. In garden compositions, this variety is effective for creating border lines or as a specimen plant in early spring flowering zones, providing a dynamic transition between bulbous plants and summer perennials.
