The 'Nikitsky Early' pomegranate variety was bred at the Nikitsky Botanical Garden and is characterized by high yield, large fruits, and an excellent sweet-sour taste. Fruits reach a mass of 180 to 280 g, featuring a ruby-red skin of medium thickness with a thick and high neck; seeds are dark cherry in color. The taste is dessert-like, sweet-sour, while fruits retain juiciness and aroma.
The plant is of medium height (up to 2 m), self-pollinating, and requires winter covering: the trunk is buried with soil to a thickness of about 10–15 cm. Frost-resistant down to –20 °C, but in cold periods it is necessary to ensure protection of shoots. For optimal growth and fruiting, the plant prefers a sunny location with neutral, well-drained soil; planting interval 2–4 m.
Care for 'Nikitsky Early' includes regular watering, especially during dry periods, and pruning in spring (up to 5–10 strong shoots). For protection against pests and diseases, the following are used: bud, copper sulfate, chorus, twist, actophyt, iron sulfate, attack khrushch, federal, antiburyan. Vegetation is stimulated by korenvin, osmokot, humate; for fruits – potassium humate. Fruiting begins as early as 2–3 years, and the first large fruits appear at 3–4 years. Yield ranges from 20 to 25 kg per bush and can reach almost 200 centners per hectare with proper care.
