Genetic Potential and Agrobiological Features of "Mramornaya"

The "Mramornaya" grass pea (Lathyrus sativus) variety, developed by the RosNIIPTI SK team and specialists from the Saratov State University of Genetics, Biotechnology, and Engineering (Vavilov University), is the result of targeted breeding aimed at high plasticity in high-risk farming environments. The primary engineering goal achieved by the originators, including V.I. Zhuzhukin, was to develop a crop that combines early maturity with rational biomass distribution.

Technical Development Parameters

• Vegetation Period: 85–115 days. This range allows the variety to successfully complete its maturation cycle in regions with short frost-free periods, minimizing the risk of exposure to autumn frosts.
• 1000-Seed Weight: 150–250 g. High seed weight in this class of crops directly correlates with germination energy and early vigor, which is critical when sowing in insufficiently warmed soil.
• Morphological Traits: White flowers are a marker for line purity, facilitating phytosanitary control during the flowering stage.

The practical value of this variety lies in its nitrogen-fixation capacity and high forage value. "Mramornaya" exhibits significant resistance to lodging, which reduces harvesting losses. Its high adaptability to various soil and climatic conditions makes it a reliable tool for establishing a forage base in farms focused on sustainable production and reducing reliance on synthetic nitrogen fertilizers.
