Field Performance of the "Almaz" Sunflower

When we first introduced the "Almaz" variety from NVP Agrofirma Zemlerob into our crop rotation, the primary goal was to secure an early-maturing crop capable of handling unpredictable weather patterns. With a growing season of 90–100 days, this variety consistently reaches maturity before the peak of summer heat stress. Standing at 150–160 cm, the stalks are robust and uniform, which makes mechanical harvesting straightforward and minimizes header losses.

Quality and Yield Characteristics

The seeds are visually impressive: large, with a distinct narrow-ovate shape and a deep black coat. During the harvest, the kernel filling is consistently good. In our experience, the oil content consistently hits the 45–50% range, which ensures we get premium pricing from oil crushing plants.

• Disease Resistance: The standout feature for our agronomists is its natural resistance to powdery mildew. In areas where other hybrids require multiple fungicide applications, "Almaz" stands strong, significantly reducing our chemical input costs.
• Harvesting Efficiency: The crop matures uniformly, allowing our combine operators to cover fields efficiently. The seeds hold tight to the head, showing little to no shattering even when harvest is delayed by a few days due to rain.

For an owner-operator, "Almaz" is a low-maintenance, reliable variety. It doesn’t demand exotic soil conditions or expensive inputs; it responds well to standard agricultural practices and delivers a high-value, high-oil product that is always in demand at the elevators.
