Description
The hybrid sunflower Fifth Element (NS X 7256) is a mid-early variety with a vegetation period of 115-118 days and high yield potential exceeding 5.5 tons per hectare. This hybrid features large seeds weighing 60-77 grams per 1000 seeds and high oil content in the seeds — 48-50%, at moisture content of 23-25%. Plants reach a height of 160-180 cm and possess a strong root system extending up to 3 meters deep, providing resistance to lodging and facilitating rapid drying before harvest without the need for desiccation.
One of the key features of Fifth Element is its high resistance to major sunflower diseases and pests, including downy mildew (resistance to 6+ races), Phomopsis, rust, sunflower moth, and false powdery mildew. Due to its genetic resistance to rust, which often affects crops at the end of the vegetation period, the hybrid maintains high yield and seed quality even under adverse conditions. This makes it particularly valuable for cultivation in regions prone to drought and disease outbreaks.
The hybrid is adapted to various agroecological conditions and is recommended for cultivation in forest-steppe, central, and southern steppe zones with varying planting densities: from 45 to 60 thousand plants per hectare depending on the region. Its high resistance to drought and diseases, along with stable yield, makes Fifth Element an optimal choice for regions with critically low rainfall levels, such as Nikolayev, Odesa, Zaporozhye, and Dnipro regions.
