Description
SARATOV 85 is a high-yielding sunflower variety developed at the NIISKh of the South-East based on hybrid material from crossing varieties VNIIK 8883, Oktyabr, Stepnoy 81, and Rannespely with the line YV 242. The variety is characterized by its early maturity, ripening under Saratov conditions in 95-100 days, which is 2-3 days earlier than the standard VNIIK 8883. Plants reach a height of 160-180 cm, have a medium degree of leafiness, and green leaf and stem coloration without anthocyan. Seeds are dark gray, with a 1000-seed mass of 68-80 grams, ensuring high natural moisture content — 415-420 grams.
The variety is distinguished by high oil content in seeds — from 49.0 to 52.6%, as well as hullability within 20.2-21.1%. It is genetically resistant to downy mildew, local races of nematode, and moth, which enhances its reliability in agronomic terms. Saratov 85 responds well to the level of agrotechnology and demonstrates the highest yields of oilseeds under warmer conditions, making it particularly valuable for southern regions of the Right Bank and Zabolnya of Saratov region, as well as other southern regions of Russia.
Recommended for cultivation since 1993, the variety shows stable yield, exceeding the standard VNIIK 8883 by 1.5-1.8 centners per hectare. In competitive trials, oilseed yield reached an average of 25.3 centners per hectare with fluctuations from 20.5 to 32.0 centners per hectare. Due to high productivity and resistance to adverse factors, SARATOV 85 is one of the most demanded sunflower varieties of Saratov breeding, providing economic benefits through maximum collection of oilseeds while adhering to high agrotechnology.
