Field Performance of the STR 012 Hybrid

When working with the Strube STR 012 sunflower hybrid, you immediately notice its consistency. This German-bred hybrid is designed for farmers who value predictability. With a plant height of 170–180 cm, it is perfectly suited for standard harvesting equipment, and the 110–120 day maturity cycle fits perfectly into any farming schedule without causing a rush at the end of the season.

Protection and Herbicide Strategy

The main advantage during field operations is the tolerance to the CLEARFIELD (Euro-Lightning) system. For us, this is critical: one application solves most weed problems without stunting the plant's growth. Based on several seasons of use, the crop shows excellent field tolerance against major pathogens:

• Verticillium wilt: practically no signs of infection.
• Sclerotinia: stems remain healthy even in high-humidity conditions.
• Phomopsis and Phoma: demonstrates strong field resilience.

Oil Content and Yield

The 50–55% oil content is not just a brochure figure; it is what we see in our elevator receipts. Strube’s genetics are well-optimized: even with moderate fertilizer input, the oil yield remains consistently high. This is a case where the hybrid truly pays off for every dollar spent on seeds.

From an operator's perspective, STR 012 is highly practical. It does not require niche agronomic techniques beyond basic pest management. The plants are sturdy, do not lodge, and the heads ripen uniformly, which drastically reduces header losses during harvest.
