Description
Sirena (MC) is a classic mid-early hybrid sunflower developed by the seed company MAY Seed (Turkey). The hybrid’s vegetative period is 110–112 days, with flowering occurring after 60–64 days. Plants reach a height of 160–170 cm, feature a convex, downward-leaning head, and have highly uniform seedlings. The hybrid is characterized by high germination and resistance to seed shattering, facilitating harvest.
Sirena exhibits high heat and drought tolerance, making it especially suitable for cultivation in steppe and forest-steppe regions of Ukraine with varying climatic and soil conditions. The hybrid demonstrates stress tolerance and resistance to five strains of downy mildew (A–E), as well as resistance to major sunflower diseases such as false powdery mildew, froge, downy mildew, and rust. It is also resistant to wilt and effectively combats pests and weeds.
The primary use of the Sirena hybrid is for oilseed production. Oil content in seeds ranges from 48–52%, ensuring high yield potential of 40–50 ц/га (4.0–5.0 т/га). Recommended planting density varies by region: 50–55 thousand plants per hectare for steppe zones, and 60–62 thousand plants per hectare for forest-steppe zones. Seeds are produced in Turkey and meet agronomic standards of F1 class.
