The VK 580 sunflower is the result of long-term cooperation between the V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK) and partners from China. The development of this hybrid addresses the farmers' demand for stable, high-tech crops capable of withstanding aggressive phytosanitary conditions. Breeders M.L. Sharygina and S.V. Goncharov focused on creating a crop that balances high oil potential with "armored" defense against key pathogens.

Biological Potential and Cultivation

With a medium height of 150-170 cm, the plant features balanced morphology, simplifying field maintenance. The medium-sized, flattened head ensures uniform seed maturation, which is critical for minimizing harvest losses. An oil content of 45-50% makes VK 580 a competitive choice for the processing market.

Technological Adaptability

A primary advantage of this hybrid is its compatibility with the Clearfield (Euro-Lightning) production system. This provides growers with a powerful tool for weed control without the risk of crop suppression. The hybrid exhibits high resistance to a complex of diseases that typically affect yield:

• White rot, charcoal rot, and downy mildew — provided by genetic barrier protection.
• Phomopsis and Phoma — resistance levels that help maintain photosynthetic leaf surface until physiological maturity.
