The 'Valery Gergiev' tulip belongs to the fringed (crispa) group, which dictates its distinct petal morphology. Technically, this effect is achieved through specific needle-like growths along the perianth edges, resulting from the stabilization of specific genetic mutations. Unlike simple forms, this fringing increases the surface area for moisture evaporation; thus, the cultivar requires strict soil moisture management during the growing season to maintain petal turgor.

Light and Temperature Regime

As a late-season variety, 'Valery Gergiev' features an extended peduncle development cycle. In practice, this necessitates planting the bulb at a depth of 10-15 cm to protect it from premature soil heating and stem elongation. The plant’s average height provides natural resistance to wind stress, an essential structural parameter for open gardens and landscape beds.

Color Pigmentation and Exposure

The deep red hue is driven by high concentrations of anthocyanins within the epidermal cells. A key operational feature of this cultivar is its photosensitivity: shade intensity can shift based on soil pH and solar exposure levels. When grown for cut flower production, the variety demonstrates excellent transportability, provided that a temperature range of +2°C to +5°C is maintained to prevent premature bud opening.
