KOKTEBEL

Ziziphus «Koktebel» – a large-fruited variety of ziziphus with a late ripening period, first bred at the Nikita Botanical Garden and gained widespread popularity due to its outstanding characteristics. The tree reaches a height of 4–5 meters, has a spreading and weeping crown with a width not exceeding 2 meters. Thanks to a strong root system and resistance to various climatic conditions, the plant quickly gains height and begins to bear fruit as early as the third year after transplantation.

The fruits of «Koktebel» are distinguished by their large size – the average weight is about 35–40 g, while the maximum can reach 55 g. They have a spherical or irregular round-cylindrical shape, a light chestnut color when ripe, and a crunchy, juicy pulp of a greenish-white hue. The taste of the fruit is sour-sweet with notes of apple and fig, making it particularly valuable both in fresh form and for processing.

The yield of an adult tree reaches 80–81 kg per season, and with proper care and cross-pollination – up to 81 kg. The plant is frost-resistant (up to -25 °C in descriptions, but sometimes -30 °C is mentioned), has moderate drought resistance, and good disease resistance. For successful cultivation, it is necessary to plant several trees at a distance of 3–4 meters from each other, ensure regular watering in the first few years, and support them with ties if needed. Seedlings are usually about two years old and have an open root system, which facilitates their transport and planting.
