The primary symptom of the disease is the development of pale or chlorotic spots on the upper leaf surfaces, which eventually turn necrotic and brown. In high-humidity conditions, a characteristic greyish-purple sporulation layer appears on the undersides of the leaves, indicating active spore production by the pathogen.
