This organism acts as a significant threat to various plant species, specifically targeting the root and vascular systems.

The pathogen is primarily responsible for root rots and stem lesions on a variety of host plants. The disease manifestations include systemic wilting, chlorosis of the foliage, and stunted growth. If left untreated, the infection typically leads to the necrosis of the root cortex, rendering the plant unable to absorb nutrients or water, eventually resulting in death.

The biological cycle of Phytophthora inflata is characterized by the production of sporangia and motile zoospores. These structures require water to move and infect new hosts. The organism survives in the soil through thick-walled oospores, which allow it to withstand adverse environmental conditions and persist in contaminated soil for many seasons.
