Abagrotis orbis is a species of moth belonging to the Noctuidae family, within the order Lepidoptera. In agricultural settings, this species is identified as a potential pest, primarily due to the feeding habits of its larval stage, which can cause significant economic losses in various crop systems.

The biological cycle of this insect includes four distinct developmental stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult moth. The lifecycle is adapted to specific seasonal shifts, with the larvae typically emerging and feeding during the active growing season of host plants, which increases the risk of damage during critical growth phases.

This pest is known to feed on a variety of agricultural crops, including cereals and leafy greens. The larvae are nocturnal feeders, making them difficult to detect during the day. They exhibit a high feeding intensity, consuming leaves and sometimes damaging the structural integrity of the stems or roots.

The damage caused by Abagrotis orbis includes leaf shredding, partial or total defoliation, and damage to the apical buds.
