Acridoderes is a genus of insects belonging to the order Orthoptera and the family Acrididae (true locusts). These insects are typical representatives of the locust fauna found primarily in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa. They pose a significant threat to agriculture due to their high mobility and capacity for explosive population growth when environmental conditions are favorable.

This pest affects a wide range of agricultural crops. The list of crops most susceptible to Acridoderes attack includes cereals (maize, millet, sorghum), as well as various vegetable and industrial crops. Due to their polyphagous nature, these insects are capable of damaging almost all green vegetation within their habitat, including both commercial fields and wild grasses.

Females lay their eggs in the soil, forming specialized egg pods (oothecae), which allow offspring to survive unfavorable periods.
