Acris (Latin: Acris) belongs to the order Orthoptera and the family Acrididae (grasshoppers). This insect is a significant pest in agricultural ecosystems, characterized by its high mobility and the ability to reproduce rapidly under favorable climatic conditions, which can lead to large-scale outbreaks.

Affected Crops and Damage
The pest infests a wide range of agricultural crops. Susceptible crops include small grains (wheat, barley, rye), maize, legumes, sunflowers, and forage grasses. The insects feed on the vegetative parts of plants, leading to severe defoliation, damage to reproductive organs such as ears or heads, and a significant reduction in overall yield and crop quality.

Biology and Life Cycle
The life cycle of Acris involves three stages: egg, nymph, and adult. Females deposit eggs into the soil, creating egg pods. Nymphs undergo several instars, gradually increasing in size and developing wings. Population explosions are often correlated with prolonged dry weather periods, which facilitate faster development of subsequent generations.

The primary danger posed by Acris is its voracious appetite. During mass outbreaks, the pest can decimate large crop areas in a very short time.
