Description
Acroceratitis striata is a species of fruit fly belonging to the order Diptera and the family Tephritidae. As a specialized pest, it targets the fruit of specific plants, posing a significant challenge to farmers and orchard managers in regions where its host plants are cultivated.
The pest primarily infests fruits of various citrus species and other related plants. The economic impact is mainly observed during the fruit ripening period, when larval activity inside the fruit causes significant damage, leading to heavy losses and reducing the overall yield quality and marketability.
The life cycle involves four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The female deposits eggs into the flesh of the host fruit using an ovipositor. The emerging larvae feed on the fruit interior until they are mature, then drop to the ground to pupate in the soil. This soil-dwelling stage is critical for the survival of the species across seasons.
Damage symptoms include punctures on the fruit surface, internal decay, and the presence of larvae tunnels within the fruit. These galleries facilitate the entry of fungi and bacteria, leading to soft rot. Consequently, infested fruits often drop prematurely from the trees, and even those that remain on the tree may be unusable for commercial sale.

- Prompt removal and destruction of fallen fruit to stop the pupation cycle;
