The American dagger moth (Acronicta americana) is a prominent moth species belonging to the Noctuidae family. As a foliage-feeding insect, it is recognized as a significant pest of various deciduous trees, particularly in North American hardwood forests and urban landscapes.
This pest feeds on a wide range of host plants, including maples, oaks, elms, birches, and walnuts. The caterpillars are particularly destructive in their later instars, where their insatiable appetite can lead to severe defoliation of the host tree, significantly impacting its health and structural integrity.
