Description

Systematic position. Acupalpus meridianus belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Carabidae (ground beetles). Biology and life cycle. Adults are small, measuring approximately 3–4 mm in length. The life cycle involves complete metamorphosis, consisting of egg, larva, pupa, and adult stages. Overwintering occurs primarily in the adult stage within soil crevices or beneath plant debris, allowing them to emerge quickly when spring temperatures rise.

The damage is primarily caused by the larvae, which reside in the soil and feed on germinating seeds and the delicate root systems of seedlings. This feeding activity often goes unnoticed until the plants begin to yellow or wither due to root destruction.

Because the larvae attack the root zone, the impact is more severe during the early stages of plant development, potentially leading to significant loss of plant density and uneven maturation of the crop.
