Agallia constricta is a species of leafhopper belonging to the family Cicadellidae, order Hemiptera. Commonly known as the constricted leafhopper, this insect is a significant pest in North American agriculture. It is recognized not only for the direct physical damage it causes by feeding on host plants but also for its critical role as a vector for various plant pathogens.

The host range of this leafhopper is quite extensive, encompassing a variety of economically important crops. It frequently infests tomatoes, potatoes, sugar beets, clover, and alfalfa. By feeding on such a diverse range of botanical families, Agallia constricta can maintain high population densities across different types of agricultural fields throughout the growing season.

The biological cycle consists of egg, nymph, and adult stages. The female inserts eggs into the plant tissue, particularly in leaf veins or stems. However, its greatest agricultural impact is the transmission of the clover wound tumor virus. This viral disease significantly disrupts normal plant development, leading to tumorous growths and severe yield losses, rendering the affected crops unsuitable for market.
