Systematic position: Ageneotettix is a genus of slant-faced grasshoppers belonging to the order Orthoptera and the family Acrididae. These insects are well-adapted to grassland habitats and are recognized as significant pests in various agricultural regions, particularly in North America.

Damaged crops: This pest primarily feeds on grasses (Poaceae). They cause considerable damage to natural rangelands, pastures, and cereal crops such as wheat, barley, and oats. Large outbreaks can result in severe defoliation of both wild and cultivated grass species, leading to massive losses in fodder production.

Biology and life cycle: Like other grasshoppers, Ageneotettix undergoes incomplete metamorphosis. The life cycle consists of egg, nymphal, and adult stages. Eggs are deposited in soil clutches in late summer or autumn, remaining dormant through winter. Hatching occurs in spring, and nymphs pass through several instars while feeding voraciously on fresh vegetation.

Damage and economic impact: The damage is characterized by ragged leaf edges and the stripping of plant tissue, which limits the photosynthetic capacity of the plants. In cases of heavy infestation, Ageneotettix can leave fields bare, leading to reduced yield, poor grain quality, and the necessity for costly emergency pest control measures.
