Agraylea is a genus of insects belonging to the order Trichoptera and the family Hydroptilidae. Unlike terrestrial pests, this organism is specifically adapted to aquatic environments. Systematically, they are recognized as micro-caddisflies, notable for their small size and the unique, silk-constructed cases that the larvae build to protect themselves while feeding on submerged vegetation.
The pest primarily affects aquatic and semi-aquatic crops, including those grown in hydroponic systems, flooded fields, or controlled water environments. Agraylea larvae can cause significant damage to the leaf tissues and stems of these plants, often feeding on the epidermis or burrowing into the softer parts of the plant structure to extract nutrients.
The biology and lifecycle of Agraylea follow a process of complete metamorphosis. The larvae go through several instars within the water, constructing portable cases from silk and plant debris. Pupation occurs within the water column, attached to a substrate, which makes them particularly resilient to casual environmental changes and standard pest control interventions.

The economic impact is linked to reduced plant vigor, stunted growth, and the introduction of opportunistic pathogens through the feeding sites.
