Description

Alebra is a genus of leafhoppers belonging to the family Cicadellidae, order Hemiptera. These small, agile insects are recognized as significant pests in orchards and vineyards, where they often cause localized damage that can escalate if left unmanaged during the growing season.

These pests primarily target deciduous fruit trees, including apples, pears, and grapevines. By feeding on the phloem sap of leaves, they disrupt the plant's metabolic functions, leading to stunted growth and reduced vigor of the host plant, which is particularly detrimental to young or stressed trees.

The biology of Alebra involves a life cycle typical of cicadellids. They overwinter as eggs deposited within the plant tissue or under bark scales. As temperatures rise in spring, nymphs emerge and begin feeding, undergoing several molts before reaching the adult stage, at which point they become highly mobile and capable of dispersing across fields.
