Amauromyza karli is a species of leafmining fly belonging to the family Agromyzidae within the order Diptera. These insects are well-known pests in both ornamental horticulture and agricultural production, specifically known for their larval stage that bores into plant leaves to feed on internal tissues.

The host range of Amauromyza karli primarily includes plants within the Asteraceae family. The larvae are specialized feeders, creating mines (tunnels) within the leaf lamina, which impairs the plant's ability to perform photosynthesis and can eventually lead to tissue necrosis if the infestation is severe.

The life cycle begins when the adult female oviposits into the leaf tissue. Once hatched, the larvae consume the parenchyma layer, creating patterns that are diagnostic for this species. Depending on the environmental temperature, the duration of the life cycle can vary, often leading to multiple generations per growing season.
